The Fankani is a polyrhythm played for popular celebrations and especially to welcome important visitors to the village, in the region of Wassolon (East of Guinea, West of Mali).
This music is danced only by women, individually and with improvisation of the steps. This is only an example of one traditional polyrhythm among dozens, associated with special circumstances. This gives an Idea of the richness of the rhythmic culture in Africa (and I'm just talking here about Malinke culture, former French colonies).

The animation presents audio demos played by myself with interactive listening. Indeed, you can choose the instruments of the polyrhythm that you want to listen (like a multitrack). Another educational aspect is that I have generally played simple basic figures with very little improvisation to make them easily identifiable and highlight the cultural aspect.
