French-Algerian drummer and percussionist (Gnawa music among others) (born in 1966), Karim Ziad is one of the greatest virtuosos and pioneer mixing North African rhythms and modern drumset in all styles (from the hard rock of Khindjar in Algeria, to a sophisticated contemporary jazz using asymmetric measures (Safy Boutella "Mejnoun", 1992), a little like Steve Coleman, and obviously passing through the "Rai"). Hence, one of the most interesting young French drummers of the moment, that US envy us rightly (if I may use the pun, from Ziad to Zidane, there is only one step, or rather, one "kick").
