Biography and commentary:

Jean-Christophe Jacquin is one of the best French specialists of Brazilian percussion. He learned the basics of his knowledge from the first Brazilian percussion teacher from Rio came to Europe and who is at the source of most of the samba schools in France, like the founding members of Aquarela, Parisian batucada that has trained myself. This musicologist is called Nicia Riba of Avila. Jean-Christophe master the 15 Brazilian samba percussion instruments. He is the author of an educational video of anthology ("Au coeur des batteries de Rio”: “In The Heart of Rio Baterias") and gives now advanced training courses to Samba schools in France (with Sambacademia). He is the founder and leads Zumzum (1996) and Batebonbo (2000) bands. He led in 2000 the unique meeting of 300 Parisian samba musicians for the coming of the Samba School of Rio GRES Portela in the Festival "Latitude Brazil" at the “Cité de la musique de la Villette”. He created the samba workshop in the Jussieu University in 1997. He works since 2000 within the teaching team of the “Cité de la musique de la Villette”.
